Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 1, 2026
Penpoint is built by Tophat Creative, LLC. We believe your writing is yours — and so is your data. This policy explains what little we do collect and why.
Your Writing Data
Penpoint is a desktop application. All of your projects, characters, notes, and other content are stored locally on your computer. We never have access to your writing data. Nothing is sent to our servers, because we don't have servers to send it to.
Website Analytics
Our marketing website (penpoint.app) uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site. This collects:
- Pages visited and time spent
- Referring website or search engine
- General geographic region (country/city level)
- Browser and device type
This data is aggregated and anonymous. We use it to understand which features interest writers most and how to improve the site. Google's privacy policy applies to this data collection: policies.google.com/privacy.
Auto-Update Checks
Penpoint periodically checks for new versions by contacting GitHub's servers. This is a standard HTTPS request that may transmit your IP address to GitHub. No personal data or usage information is included in these requests.
Email & Support
If you contact us at support@penpoint.app, we'll have your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use this only to respond to you and won't share it with anyone.
No Tracking in the App
The Penpoint desktop application contains no analytics, telemetry, or tracking of any kind. We don't know how you use the app, how often you open it, or what you write in it. The only way we will know is if you submit your Penpoint logs to our team for support purposes, and even then no personally identifiable information is collected.
Third Parties
We don't sell, share, or provide your data to any third party, with the sole exception of Google Analytics on this website as described above.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. For any questions, reach us at support@penpoint.app.
